2012 London Olympics: Team USA

Similar to the outcome in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Team USA once again lead in the medal count at the 2012 London Summer Olympics (total: 104). The medal count included: 46 Gold, 29 Silver, and 29 Bronze and world records set in track and field and swimming.

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings; Forever Golden

Showdown at Horse Guards Parade, London
The Women’s beach volleyball final proved to be the ultimate Olympic showdown, showing that the United States were still dominant over the growing sport. The match between Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross/Jen Kessy was extremely close, each time the ball was put into play there were no guarantees has to who would get the point. 2 out of the 3 sets were played, with the team of May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings winning both by a couple of points. Both sets were incredible games, but it was clear which team were the veterans and the novices. The chemistry, athleticism and talent that Misty and Kerri have together is what made them stand apart of the competition this entire Olympic journey. Compared to the Brazilian team composed of Juliana and Larissa (Bronze Medalists), team USA communicated effectively and worked together more efficiently.The 2012 London Olympics is the 3rd consecutive time May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings have won gold; 1st in 2004 Athens, 2nd in 2008 Beijing. Together they have officially proved that they are “the greatest beach volleyball team of all time”. There was a lot of skepticism as to whether or not the dynamic duo could pull it off with a win, but they proved once again that they still had the drive and determination for another gold to end and solidify their career together. This Olympic final was the last time that the pair will be playing together. Misty May-Treanor is officially retiring for good this time and Kerri Walsh Jennings will continue to play beach volleyball without her partner for the first time in over a decade.

For Americans this very well might be the match up of the 2012 London Olympics. Both US women’s beach volleyball teams have made it to the final ensuring 2 medals, but who will win gold and who will fall short? The number 1 team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh have been unstoppable in the past 2 Olympic Games; 2008 Beijing and 2004 Athens, the pair hope to end their professional career together with a gold tonight. They are known as “the greatest beach volleyball team of all time” and there is no denying the overwhelming amount of talent,chemistry and determination between the two. These veterans hope to overcome the number 2 team of Jen Kessy and April Ross, a team new to the Olympics. Kessy and Ross is a team that is a force to be re conned with. They battled back in the match up between Brazil and came back after a number times of being behind in the score. Once this team starts a rally, there’s little that can stop their momentum. Kessy and Ross have a habit for battling back at the end, which will make for a good match up tonight.

Heather vs. Ramona
Each week there always seems to be some kind of confrontation between the ladies and frequently this season it has been between Heather and Ramona. It seems that the main cause of this rift is due to the fact that they are similar in more ways than one. Heather and Ramona are both two powerful, strong, successful business women which in any case could be a problem if too many of them are in a room together. Usually when Ramona is acting out of line, the rest of the women appease her and then it goes away. With the first confronation in the first episode Heather stuck up for herself against Ramona which is a fresh change and essentially a challenge to Ramona. This season has been tit for tat between these two, first with London and then the swanky dinner hosted by Ramona.
